Michelle Burkott is a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor (LPC-S). She is licensed to practice mental health counseling in Texas and provide supervision to counseling Associates. Michelle grow up in Northern California in a large family. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Art and Communications from Brigham Young University Hawaii.
Michelle moved to Texas in 2004 and earned a Masters degree in Counseling and Guidance from the University of Texas at Brownsville in 2008. While in graduate school Michelle did her therapeutic group work at Valley Baptist Hospital in Harlingen and completed her internship and practicum at the UTB Student Counseling Center. Additionally, Michelle obtained her CANS certification in 2019, and her (EMDR) Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing certification in 2022.
Michelle has worked in higher education for twenty years as an Academic Advisor, Counselor, and Psychology Instructor. She currently teaches Psychology at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. Michelle has presented at local counseling conferences and at the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities national conference.
Michelle has several years of experience as a mental health counselor working in private practice.
By using cognitive behavioral therapy and other modalities she supports individuals in their efforts to grow and change. Currently her focus is primarily working with adolescents and adults and offers counseling to individuals ages 8 and older. She does NOT offer couples counseling.
